Nationwide Roaming Minutes Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is nationwide roaming minutes? Nationwide roaming minutes provides customers the ability to utilize their Jump™ phone throughout the U.S. and Canada while outside of their local market.
What is AWAY (2929)? This is the code required to set up a nationwide roaming minutes call. Having this code provides customers with an ability to know that they are utilizing their service outside of their local Jump market and will reduce surprises as amounts in their Flex Bucket™ or nationwide roaming minutes Only bucket are being deducted.
Who can get nationwide roaming minutes? Customers with a dual or tri-mode handset can add the nationwide roaming minutes feature.
How much does nationwide roaming minutes cost? Jump customers are charged $.69 per minute outside their Local Calling Area. This price is referred to as the "nationwide roaming minutes per minute rate". Please note that there will be an additional charge for calls to Alaska, International Long Distance, and Directory Assistance.
Are all nationwide roaming minutes calls rated at $.69 per minute? While traveling in the United States (except Alaska) and Canada you will be billed at the nationwide roaming minutes per minute rate. If you are calling Alaska you will be charged an additional $.08 per minute. If you are making an international long distance call you will be charged the nationwide roaming minutes per minute plus the international long distance rate for the country you are calling (please refer to the FAQs for international long distance).
While I am traveling how much am I charged for Directory Assistance? You will be charged a $1.00 fee for a Directory Assistance call and the nationwide roaming minutes per minute rate for the duration of the call.
How do I pay for nationwide roaming minutes? Jump customers call 1-800-651-8276 to pay by Airtime To Go™ or by credit card over the phone.
How do I add nationwide roaming minutes?
- Make sure you have a dual or tri-mode handset.
- Contact 1-866-515-JUMP.
- Dial *228 to update your preferred roaming list in your handset.
What is a Preferred Roaming List (PRL)? A list of our Roaming Partners that is stored on your Jump phone. This listing provides the ability to roam onto the Roaming Partners networks.
How do I update my Preferred Roaming List? While you are in your local market or another Jump market you can dial *228, SEND, then follow the instructions to update your Preferred Roaming List at anytime.
What is two-stage dialing? nationwide roaming minutes requires a code (AWAY) prior to dialing the number that you would like to call. This helps eliminate any confusion as to when you will be charged for a call outside your calling area.
Where can I go to get information or help with an issue while I am traveling? Customers should dial AWAY (2929) SEND and wait for the prompt to enter 611 followed by the # key. If you dial 611 without AWAY (2929) you will reach the Roaming Partners Customer Care Center rather than Jump’s Customer Care.
Am I charged for calling Customer Care? If you access Jump Customer Care you will not be charged for the duration of that call.
Can I use nationwide roaming minutes as soon as I activate my Jump account? After you add the feature to your account, update the preferred roaming list (PRL) and ensure you have appropriate funds, you will be able to start using nationwide roaming minutes outside your home calling area.
Why can’t I use nationwide roaming minutes on other phones types? Currently we only offer this service on handsets that are dual and tri-mode. You can purchase a dual or tri-mode handset at a Jump Dealer to take advantage of this feature.
What happens if I receive a phone call while I am traveling? If you are outside of your home calling area and receive a call that you answer you will be charged the nationwide roaming minutes per minute rate. Please note that you will not be told you are roaming; however, your roaming indicator (such as "R" or " ") will be displayed on your handset. Please refer to your handset manual for the specific roaming indicator on your handset.
What happens if I miss a phone call while I am traveling? If you do not answer the phone and have voicemail, the person calling you can leave a voicemail message at no cost. If you do not have voicemail then the person that is trying to reach you will hear a message that says "the person you are trying to reach is currently out of the service area". When checking your voicemail from your handset while traveling outside your Jump home area you will incur the nationwide roaming minutes per minute charge. Additionally, your voicemail indicator may or may not indicate that you have a voicemail while you are traveling.
I was on a call while I was traveling and my call dropped. What happened? Your call may have dropped for the following reasons:
- You don’t have adequate funds.
- You may have traveled from one network to another.
- You entered an area with inadequate signal strength.
Please note that Jump will not provide credit for dropped calls.
Can I transfer the nationwide roaming minutes feature to a new Jump phone? Yes, as long as the phone is a dual or tri-mode Jump handset and you update your preferred roaming list by dialing *228.
Do any of my other features work while I am traveling? All of Jump’s features will work when you travel into another Jump market. However, while traveling outside of your local market you will not be able to use Jump Downloads, Picture Messaging, and text messaging. Additionally, your voicemail indicator may not notify you that you have a message.
When I try to make a call, why am I getting a "Fast Busy" signal? If you hear a "Fast Busy" signal and do not reach the prompt "Welcome to Crickets nationwide roaming minutes…" this may be an indicator that you are out of funds in your Flex Bucket Account.
When I try to make a call, why am I getting "dead air"? If you get "dead air" and do not reach the prompt "Welcome to Crickets nationwide roaming minutes…" this may be an indicator that you are out of funds in your Flex Bucket Account.
When I try to make a call, why am I asked for a Credit Card when I have funds in my account? There are some areas where we may not have a Roaming Partner. If you hear a notification that you have reached a network that requests a Credit Card or Prepaid Card this is not part of nationwide roaming minutes network.
When I call 611, why did I reach a different Customer Care Center? Please ensure that you dial AWAY (2929) SEND and wait for the prompt to enter 611 followed by the # key. You will then access the Jump Customer Care center.
Do I need to dial AWAY (2929) when dialing 911? No. Please dial 911 directly to receive the local emergency center.
How do I place a local call? Dial AWAY (2929) press SEND, wait for the prompt and enter the area code and the number you are dialing followed by the # key. There is no need to dial "1" prior to the ten digit number you are calling.
How do I place a long distance call? Dial AWAY (2929) press SEND, wait for the prompt and enter the area code and the number you are dialing followed by the # key. There is no need to dial "1" prior to the ten digit number you are calling.
How do I place an international long distance call? Dial AWAY (2929) press SEND, wait for the prompt and enter 011, then the country code and the number you are dialing followed by the # key.
How do I call 411? Dial AWAY (2929) press SEND, wait for the prompt and enter 411 followed by the # key.
How can I use my contact list while I am using nationwide roaming minutes? You can add a new contact and you can enter the phone number as follows: 2929, HARD PAUSE (please refer to your handset user manual) and enter the ten digit (or international long distance) number followed by the # key. When using the nationwide roaming minutes contact select the number and press SEND, then you must listen for the prompt "Welcome to Cricket nationwide roaming minutes…" and then you push SEND to dial the number you are trying to reach.
Does Jump have International Roaming? Jump does offer Roaming in some areas of Canada (please refer to the coverage map) at the nationwide roaming minutes per minute rate.
I added the feature, updated my preferred roaming list, and have sufficient funds in my account but I cannot make a call. What do I do now? Please check to see if your handset is set for "Home Only". If your handset is set to "Home Only", please change it to Roaming or Automatic (this is handset dependent). Please refer to your handset manual for instructions. Also, please ensure you are dialing AWAY (2929) press SEND, wait for the prompt and enter the area code and the number you are dialing followed by the # key.
I am in my local calling area, but I hear the announcement of "Welcome to Cricket nationwide roaming minutes". What do I do now? If this occurs while you are in your local calling area, please set your handset to "Home Only". This will prevent you from going into the nationwide roaming minutes mode. Please refer to your handset manual for instructions. Please power off your handset and then turn it back after changing the setting.
Why doesn’t my Text Message feature work while I am traveling? This service may or may not be available in certain areas even though you are able to make a voice call.
